In chemistry, a mixture is a combination of two or more substances that are not chemically bonded together. Mixtures can be separated into their individual components using various physical methods, such as filtration, distillation, and chromatography.

Mixtures can be classified into two broad categories: homogeneous mixtures and heterogeneous mixtures.

Homogeneous mixtures have uniform composition throughout, meaning that the individual components are evenly distributed and cannot be visually distinguished. Examples of homogeneous mixtures include solutions like saltwater, sugar water, and air.

Heterogeneous mixtures, on the other hand, have non-uniform composition, meaning that the individual components can be visually distinguished. Examples of heterogeneous mixtures include suspensions like muddy water and heterogeneous solutions like oil and water.
